★Communication

An English-Speaking Dentist in Turkey

Communication is not a courtesy in dentistry; it is part of the treatment. Your dentist needs an accurate medical history, and you need to understand what is being proposed, what the alternatives are, and what could go wrong. That is difficult through a translator who is paraphrasing technical detail.

At SmileOver, consultations, consent and written plans are given in English, and your coordinator interprets only where a specialist term needs explaining. This page covers what to expect and what to insist on.

Why it matters clinically

The first appointment is not only about your teeth. Your dentist needs to know what medication you take, whether you have diabetes or a heart condition, whether you smoke, whether you have had problems with anaesthetic or healing before, and what treatment you have already had. Every one of those answers changes clinical decisions.

Later, in consent, you need to understand precisely what will be removed, what will be placed, what is irreversible, and what the realistic lifespan of the work is. Nodding along to something you have not understood is not consent in any meaningful sense.

What to expect at SmileOver

Consultations, treatment plans, consent forms and aftercare instructions are provided in English. Your written plan names the treatments, the materials and the implant systems, and states what is excluded from the price. If a technical term matters to your decision, it is explained until it is clear — that is part of the coordinator's job.

  • A full medical history taken in English before any treatment is planned.
  • Your plan in writing in English, to take home and re-read.
  • Aftercare instructions written down, not just spoken.
  • A named contact who answers messages in English after you return to the UK.

Not sure which treatment applies to you? A coordinator will go through it with you.

Questions to ask any clinic about language

If you are comparing clinics, these are the questions that reveal how much of the process you will genuinely understand.

  • Will the dentist who examines me speak English, or will someone translate?
  • Is the treatment plan given in writing in English, with materials named?
  • Is the consent documentation in English?
  • Who do I contact after treatment, and in what language?
  • Can I speak to the clinical team before I pay a deposit?

Talk it through before you book

You can test all of this before committing to anything. Send photographs, describe your concerns, and judge how clearly the reply addresses them. If the answer is vague, that is information.

★Frequently Asked Questions

An English-Speaking Dentist in Turkey: questions patients ask

Do Turkish dentists speak English?

Many dentists working with international patients speak English, and larger clinics employ English-speaking coordinators. Confirm before booking who will explain your treatment and in which language.

Will my treatment plan be in English?

At SmileOver, yes — the plan, the quote and the aftercare instructions are all provided in English, with the materials and implant systems named.

What if I need to explain something complicated?

You can send a written note in advance, and your coordinator will go through it with the dentist before your appointment. Bring a list of your medication with you.

Can I bring a Turkish-speaking friend or relative?

Of course, and it can be reassuring. It does not replace clear English documentation though, which is why we provide it as standard.

Is the paperwork legally valid if it is in English?

Consent documents are provided in the language you understand so that your agreement is genuine. Where local requirements need Turkish paperwork, the clinic provides both.

How quickly do coordinators reply after I get home?

Ask this before you travel and you will get a specific answer. Ours is normally the same working day for messages, and a call the next day where needed.

How to read this page

SmileOver is a coordination service. We arrange consultations, written treatment plans, airport and clinic transfers, accommodation and aftercare contact for patients travelling from the UK and elsewhere.

Clinical care — diagnosis, treatment planning and the treatment itself — is provided by the independent dental clinic and its registered dentists in Turkey. SmileOver does not practise dentistry and does not decide which treatment you need.

Every page here is general information, not medical advice. Your dentist will assess your own teeth, and treatment varies between patients. No outcome is guaranteed and no treatment is suitable for everyone.
