Dental Tourism in Turkey: A Guide for UK Patients
Dental tourism means travelling for treatment — usually because the same work costs considerably less abroad, and because the trip can double as a holiday. For UK patients, Turkey is the most popular destination in Europe.
This guide explains how a treatment trip actually works, why so many patients choose Marmaris, what to check before booking any clinic, and what aftercare looks like once you are home.
Why UK patients choose dental treatment in Turkey
The attraction is not one thing. It is a combination of cost, access and quality that has become normal for British patients over the last decade:
- A lower cost base. Clinic rents, salaries, laboratory overheads and materials cost less in Turkey, so the same crown or implant costs far less to deliver.
- Established private clinics. Turkey has a large, competitive private dental sector with modern equipment and high treatment volumes, particularly in implant and full-mouth restoration work.
- Direct flights. Dalaman, Antalya and Istanbul are all served from UK airports, with flight times of around four hours.
- The trip itself. Patients often combine treatment with a holiday — something that is harder to do when treatment is happening twenty minutes from home.
What dental tourism is not is a shortcut. It still involves surgery, healing and careful clinical planning. The travel is the easy part.
Why so many patients choose Marmaris
Marmaris sits on Turkey's Turquoise Coast, where the Aegean meets the Mediterranean. It is a working holiday town with a marina, a long seafront and a compact centre — which turns out to matter a great deal when you are travelling for dental work.

- Everything is close. Our clinic is a four-minute walk from the hotel we use, so appointments, rest days and the beach are all within a short stroll.
- Dalaman airport. Around an hour's transfer, with direct flights from several UK airports.
- Comfortable recovery days. Shade, sea air and a gentle promenade do a lot for a swollen jaw — far more pleasant than a hotel room on an industrial estate.
- An English-speaking support network. Our coordinators are British-facing and locally based, so questions get answered by someone who knows exactly who you are.
You can read more about the town in our Marmaris destination guide, including why Marmaris works for dental tourism.
How a dental treatment trip to Turkey works
- Enquiry and consultation. You send photographs, tell us what you want to change, and speak to a coordinator. You can also book a free consultation straight away.
- Written treatment plan. A provisional plan with timings and cost, confirmed in writing before anything is booked.
- Dates and travel. You choose dates, we arrange accommodation and transfers, and you book flights (or we include them, depending on your package).
- Assessment on day one. X-rays, often a CT scan, a full examination and a conversation about what you actually want. The plan is confirmed with you before treatment starts.
- Treatment days. Crowns and veneers usually run over a few days with afternoons free. Implant placement is a longer appointment, followed by healing days.
- Final fitting and flying home. Your bite is checked, your restorations are fitted, and you leave with aftercare instructions and documentation.
- Aftercare at home. Your coordinator stays reachable, and your UK dentist continues your routine care. See our aftercare page for what that involves.
Questions to ask before you book any clinic
Reputable clinics welcome these questions. If a clinic dodges them, that is your answer.
- Which implant system or crown material are you using, and how is it documented?
- Is the laboratory in-house, or is work sent elsewhere?
- Who performs the clinical work, and what is their experience with my case?
- What is included, and what costs extra?
- What happens if something needs revisiting once I am home?
- What written information do I leave with?
Our own answers are on about SmileOver and patient information. If you take nothing else from this page, take this: never book treatment abroad on price alone, and never pay for treatment that has not been explained to you in writing.
What a SmileOver trip includes
- Private airport transfers. A driver meets you at Dalaman and takes you to your hotel — see transfers.
- Boutique hotel accommodation. Breakfast included, four minutes from the clinic — see where you stay.
- Your own coordinator. One English-speaking point of contact for appointments, questions and the practical side of the trip — see meet the coordinators.
- All clinical appointments in your written plan, with temporary teeth where needed.
- Aftercare that follows you home — see aftercare and UK follow-up.
Costs and inclusions are set out on our Turkey teeth prices page and in each dental package.
Common questions about dental holidays in Turkey
Is dental tourism in Turkey safe?
It can be, and the difference is usually information rather than geography. Ask which implant brand is being used, whether the laboratory is in-house, who performs the work, what documentation you take home, and who answers your questions after you fly. If a clinic answers those in writing, you are dealing with a professional outfit.
How long do I need to stay in Turkey for dental treatment?
Crowns, veneers and bridges are usually completed in five to seven days including the final fitting. Implants normally mean two trips — placement first, then the final teeth a few months later once healing is confirmed. Full-arch work typically needs seven to ten days for the first stage.
Do I need travel insurance for dental treatment abroad?
Standard travel policies often exclude planned dental treatment, so it is worth checking what yours covers. Many patients take specialist cover for treatment trips. We can tell you exactly what documentation you will leave with, which is what an insurer will ask for.
Who looks after me once I am back in the UK?
You keep your coordinator's contact details and you leave with a treatment summary and implant documentation where relevant. Routine check-ups continue with your own UK dentist — we are happy to share your notes with them, and our aftercare team stays reachable if anything concerns you.
Can I combine dental treatment with a holiday?
Most patients do. Treatment usually happens in the mornings, so afternoons are free for the beach, the marina or a boat trip. Surgical days are gentler — rest, ice and soft food — so build the holiday around your treatment days rather than the other way round.
Why do UK patients choose Marmaris over Istanbul or Antalya?
Marmaris is compact and walkable, so your hotel, the clinic and the seafront are all within a few minutes of each other. It is served by Dalaman airport, around an hour away, with direct flights from several UK airports — and the town itself is a proper holiday destination rather than a large city.
